Roadworthy Certificates for Electric & Hybrid Cars

Electric and hybrid vehicles may have different components and systems compared with traditional petrol or diesel vehicles.

If you need a Victorian Roadworthy Certificate for your EV or hybrid, K1 Motors can carry out the required roadworthy inspection at our licensed workshop in Clayton.

We can assist owners who need a Roadworthy Certificate when:

– Selling an electric or hybrid vehicle
– Buying or transferring a used vehicle
– Re-registering a vehicle
– Clearing certain vehicle defect notices
– Completing other registration requirements where a current Roadworthy Certificate is required

What Is Checked During an EV or Hybrid Roadworthy Inspection?

A Victorian Roadworthy Certificate inspection is designed to check whether key safety-related components of the vehicle meet the applicable roadworthiness requirements.

The inspection includes areas such as:

Wheels & Tyres
Tyres, wheels and related components are checked for roadworthiness and safety.

Steering & Suspension
Key steering and suspension components are inspected for excessive wear, damage and other roadworthiness issues.

Braking System
The vehicle’s braking components and operation are inspected as part of the roadworthy assessment.

Seats & Seatbelts
Seats, seatbelts and relevant restraint components are checked.

Lights & Reflectors
Required vehicle lighting and reflectors are inspected.

Windscreen & Windows
The windscreen, relevant windows, front wipers and washers are checked.

Vehicle Structure
The vehicle’s body and structure are inspected for roadworthiness-related issues.

Other Safety-Related Items
Other applicable safety-related components on the vehicle are also assessed.

A Roadworthy Certificate confirms that the vehicle met the applicable roadworthiness requirements at the time of inspection. It is not a comprehensive assessment of the vehicle’s overall mechanical reliability or condition.

What happens if my car fails the roadworthy test?
